 Newspaper industries –ownership and control question: who controls The Observer / Guardian and what are its values?

The Observer and the Guardian are both owned by a trust which was set up in the 1930's and it was to protect the independence of the newspaper and to keep the key values within the newspaper.

Press freedom and regulation question: What is meant by 'a free press'? When The Guardian newspaper investigated (and revealed) what The News of The World newspaper had done to get stories, what big changes in press regulation resulted?

A free press means the old media where newspapers are able to campaign on political issues and journalists are expected to be higher critical of those in power.

Convergence question: "When newspapers operate online there is technological and cultural convergence." What does this mean in The Observer?

Online newspapers uses photography, copy and headlines, they have a chat box and a button where you are able to comment on the post which you wouldn't be able to do if you have the ordinary paper newspaper.

Newspaper audiences question: The Observer has different sections designed to appeal to different types of readers. Explain this with examples.

The new review consists of more comedic opinion pieces, interviews and reviews of theatre, dance, music, cinema, architecture, computer games and television listings. This appeals and pleasures to the culture consumer. Also, the Sports section covers primarily male sports with a bias to football and rugby union.  

Uses and gratification question: how does The Observer meet readers' needs for personal identity and social integration?

The observer meets readers needs by making it easy for people to interact with each other, they are able to discuss the news or what they've read, it allows readers to read about their personal interests and the observer is always looking for ways to improve so having feedback is very useful.

Active/passive audiences question: in what way can The Observer's audience be 'active' ?

The observers audience can be active by giving feedback, always viewing/buying their newspapers and commenting on them, always keeping up to date with what's going on in the news and having your personal opinions if you like or dislike the newspaper.

    Q 1 yes and what are those values? You miss the second half of the question
    Q 2 'free press' is still what we have now in a democracy - the right to investigate, report, campaign; where is the second half of this question?
    Q 3 you understand internet interactivity; the other kind of convergence relates to cultural convergence, that is, about the way that the paper is consistent in its values
